OS X 10.4.8 on my AMD PC

Yes, I am posting this from my AMD PC running OS X 10.4.8. Running it quite nicely might I add. It is a lot quicker than I thought it would be. It’s a shame all of the applications keep on crashing on me. Firefox crashes regularly when I visit specific pages. Like anyones profile on facebook among others. I have also had Quicktime and iTunes crash on me more than once for no apparent reason.

The installation was super easy though. I downloaded the OSX 10.4.8 disk with pff1 and pff2. I don’t know what pff means, but it is some kind of patch. I downloaded the pff1 disk a few months ago, but it didn’t work for me. Apparently there was a bug in the disk utility on it and it would cause a corrupt partition that you couldn’t install on. pff2 fixed that though. I just popped the disk in, partitioned the drive using the disk utility and installed the OS selecting the AMD and nvidia drivers. Note, I did install this on an ATA drive. SATA is possible, but it sounds like it might be a little bit of work. This might also be why it worked for me this time. When I tried it with the pff1 disk I was trying on a SATA drive.

I don’t really have the patience right now to see if I can do something about the crashing and until Amarok v2 comes out I couldn’t see me switching away from Linux for my main OS. I really cant be expected to use any other application for managing my music anymore.

I will have to watch for updates on how things go with running 10.5 on the PC when it is finally released. And when I build my next PC I will defiantly have to check how compatible the new hardware is with it.
