WOW – Let SAW IV Get Out the Gate Before Signing on for SAW V and VI

Bloody-Disgusting is reporting that they have multiple sources confirming David Hackl the production designer and second unit director from SAW II, III, and IV has officially been signed on to direct SAW V and VI.
Apparently SAW is a goldmine and they don’t seeing it running out of steam any time soon. I say wait and see what the response is from SAW IV before you go making any plans. I am all for multiple sequel horror franchises, but I’m not going to buy into any recycled crap.
Actually, I’m surprised that they aren’t talking SAW Remakes or prequels by now. Oh well, looks like we can look forward to three more years of SAW at Halloween.
Eight More Films to Die For
See what happens when I don’t write very much on this blog? I go on a rampage and post 50 things at once.
Here is another one for ya. The After Dark Horrorfest 2006 was so successful they are doing it all over again this year! What is exciting is the promo video says they are going global! Oh God, please come to Calgary.
There isn’t a whole lot of information on the website yet but here is what I do know:
- It will be November 9th through 11th 2007
- All Access passes go on sale in September 2007
- 35 US cities are confirmed, but the promo video says they are going global, so that gives me hope it will be in Canada as well
- There will be 8 new films to die for from After Dark and Lions Gate
- There is a YouTube contest starting July 1st to become Miss Horrorfest 2007
- There is also a screenwriting competition. Submit your screenplay to win a deal with After Dark and Lions Gate
- There is a film making contest. Make a horror short and upload it to YouTube. The winners will have their videos showcased on the Horrorfest website and the grand winner will have theirs show in theaters during the Horrorfest.
Details are pretty scarce at this point. I can’t find any details on which cities are confirmed for 2007 or exactly how to enter any of the three contests. There aren’t really any details on the YouTube channel or on the MySpace page.
I’ll keep an eye on this though and post any more news I find.
After Dark Horror Fest: Eight Films to Die For DVD Box Set

Ok, so finding the Masters of Horror: Season One Box Set on Amazon got me looking at their horror dvd catalog and now I have come across another set, the After Dark Horror Fest
Box Set. I posted about the After Dark “Film Fest” back in November. To recap this was a 3 night event in theaters all over the US (wah, no Canada dates) where they played 8 “unreleased” horror movies. They claimed these movies would only be available in the theatres and not on DVD, but I gues they were liars.
Anyway, they have been out on DVD for a while now but I have only seen them individually in the movie rental stores. Well Amazon has the box set of all 8 movies available.
The movies all look really good from the trailers and I really was sad I wasn’t able to go to them in the theater, but I am adding this box set to my Amazon wish list. Hopefully I can pick it up in the next month or two so I can get caught up.
Here is the promo video from YouTube if you missed it:
Masters of Horror Season 1 Box Set Released
When Showtime’s Masters of Horror was first released on DVD they released all of the episodes as individual DVDs that usually came in a 2 pack. So for the price of $20 – $30 you would get two one-hourish episodes. This really disappointed me for two reasons. First off, I wanted to buy them, but didn’t want to spend $200 to get all of the episodes, and second I knew eventually they would release a box set and I would be stuck with all individual DVDs.
Well, my lucky day has arrived. They have released the Masters of Horror: Season One Box Set.
Masters of Horror is a Showtime TV series that takes classic horror writer/directors and puts them behind the camera for a 1 hour episode. Each episode is an individual story and is basically a mini-movie.
Some of my favorite episodes from season one include Incident On and Off a Mountain Road, Dreams in the Witch House, and Jenifer. I highly recommend this series for anyone who loves horror. Even if you dont love horror I suggest you give it a chance because it is some really entertaining television.
Here is the synopsis from the episode Incident On and Off a Mountain Road
Based on Joe Lansdale’s short story of the same title, this episode pits Ellen (Bree Turner), a seemingly defenseless young woman, against Moonface, a deformed and demented serial killer. As the story cuts back and forth in time, we slowly discover that our heroine is not as helpless, nor as innocent as she initially seems. Trained by her abusive husband Bruce (Ethan Embry) to be a survivalist, instructed to use any and every available object as a weapon in a time of need, Ellen gets to test the real life application of these lessons. Ultimately, chained to the floor of Moonface’s horrific cabin with a most unsavory roommate (Angus Scrimm), she races against the clock to free herself before she meets a grisly fate. This gritty episode pits a strong female protagonist against evil incarnate.
Season two has also been aired and released on individual DVDs like season one originally was. I’ll wait for the box set for those episodes as well. Season two has some really good stories as well.
Halloween (2007) Trailer
I was pretty excited when I first found out that Rob Zombie was going to do a Halloween remake. Although I thought House of 1000 Corpses was pure crap, The Devil’s Rejects is one of my favorite movies. If Rob comes anywhere close to what he accomplished with that movie, I’ll be happy.
Anyway, here is the first trailer for Rob Zombie’s Halloween ‘reimagining’. The movie is due to be released August 31 2007, but I don’t know why they wouldn’t shoot for an October 31 release. It would make sense.
Hostel 2 and Primeval Trailers Released
I saw on my Apple Trailers feed yesterday that the Hostel 2 teaser trailer was released. Check it out below. While I was looking for the trailer on Apple’s website today I also came across this one for Primeval, which also looks like it could be decent.
Hostel 2 Teaser Trailer
Primeval Trailer
I’m not really sure what this movie is exactly about… it comes off as a horror but read the synopsis from upcomminghorrormovies.com:
The film follows a news producer, reporter, and cameraman as they head to South Africa to track down and attempt to bring home a live legendary 25-foot crocodile known as “Gustave.” However, their quarry proves far more elusive and deadly than they anticipated, and their situation turns even more perilous when a feared warlord targets them for death.
So I’m not sure if the croc is the killer or the warlord or something else. I predict it will be bad, but you never know.
Scary Mary – Mary Poppins Recut
Check out this trailer. It’s clips from Mary Poppins recut into a trailer to make it look like a horror movie.
Seriously, if this was a real horror I would want to see it!
After Dark Horror Fest: 8 Films To Die For
All I have to say about this is WAH. Every once and a while living in Canada really hurts my feelings. The After Dark Horror Fest is on this weekend in theaters all across the US. Only from the 17th to the 19th can these unreleased horror movies be seen. It’s really sad too because from the trailers on the website the movies look really good.
Maybe I’ll get lucky and they will either be ‘released’ online, or they will eventually come to DVD.
Rob Zombie, Halloween Remake
I was watching Jimmy Kimmel last night and Rob Zombie was his 2nd guest. Rob says he is currently working on an animated comedy movie project for adults. Thee exciting stuff though is after that movie is complete he is going to begin work on a Halloween remake.
He says the remake will be half prequil and half “reimagination” of the original. I knew it would only be a matter of time before they redid Halloween. In one sense I find it sad to think that every good idea in horror has been done, and the only way to make another good movie is to remake a classic. However the Amityville Horror and The Hills Have Eyes remakes were quality movies that I really enjoyed. Amityville was actually better than the original in every way.
Well I am excited for this. I thought House of 1000 Corpses was really bad, and I struggled to get through the whole thing. However, I loved the Devil’s Rejects. So if Rob can make another movie like that, I’m with him.
