What is the best PC hardware setup for running OS x86?
I have been thinking a bit lately about trying my hand at setting up Mac OS x86 on my PC. After doing a bit of research I realized that A, it doesn’t work well on the Nvidia chipsets, and B, it works better if your processor has SSE3. My AMD 3200+ only has SSE2.
Then I got to thinking about what the best PC hardware to use would be to get OS x86 running as good as it would on a Mac. Looking at the HCL list on osx86project.org it seems as though an Intel motherboard with an Intel CPU that supports SSE3 is the most compatible. However it also looks like you have to worry about things like your CD drive, graphics card and other expansion hardware also needs to be compatible. From my quick glance it seems like ATI graphics cards are best with Pioneer optical drives.
I’m going to do a bit more research and see if I can find if someone else has already come up with a list with the most compatible current hardware. Also I guess I have to remember though that the Intel OS is still brand new, so there may not be a definitive list yet.
