Movie: The Hills have Eyes (Remake)
I must have been living under a rock or something. I don’t know how I missed this but apparently Alexander Aja of Haute Tension fame has directed a remake of Wes Craven’s 1977 movie The Hills Have Eyes. From the looks of the Apple trailer here the remake stays true to the original plot of the movie. However, you never know what they are going to throw in there. I really enjoyed Haute Tension and I’m hoping Alexander brings some of that brutality to this remake.
The release date is set for March 10th, 2006
Synopsis
A new take on Wes Craven’s 1977 film of the same name, THE HILLS HAVE EYES is the story of a family road trip that goes terrifyingly awry when the travelers become stranded in a government atomic zone. Miles from nowhere, the Carters soon realize the seemingly uninhabited wasteland is actually the breeding ground of a blood-thirsty mutant family…and they are the prey.

It also looks like Wes Craven is back to produce the movie. This should be good, so long as he doesn’t try to Screamify it. Sometimes it’s hard to remember that Wes actually had some good movies before he turned to thrillers. Previous to his Scream, Cursed, and Red Eye fame (defame?) he wrote and directed some gooders including Last House on the Left and A Nightmare on Elm Street. In fact until now I thought he had some part in the movie They, but have just discovered he is only credited with “presenter”. So it’s just Wes Craven Presents They, whatever that means.
Anyway, I’m looking forward to this remake as much as I was for the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake. I hope this one doesn’t let me down like the latter did.
