A Scanner Darkly

A Scanner DarklyThis movie looks freakin’ awesome. Seriously guys. I mean yeah… I know Keanu Reeves is kind of a spoiler, but he was pretty good in Constantine. He is good at playing one character and that character happens to be in this movie. I’m totally stoked on seeing this, the story looks interesting and it has got some pretty sweet eye-candy.

The film is still in production and is being created using a technique called interpolated rotoscoping where live action scenes are converted into animated ones. Director Richard Linklater used the technology in Walking Life which he directed in 2001 and then improved it for A Scanner Darkly.

Before I was doing some reading on this movie, I didn’t realize how much I love its writer Philip K. Dick. Many of Dick’s books and short stories have been adapted to film to make some really popular movies. Some of these films include Blade Runner, Total Recall, Minority Report, Paycheck, and my personal favorite Screamers. He really is an icon among sci-fi writers and if you’re into that genre you probably already know all about him. I may even pick up this book before the movie comes out next year, but I’m not much of a fiction reader, so we’ll see.
